Youth Centre of Calgary exists because of the generosity of people and local businesses. There are always opportunities to help if that is by donating your expertise and time, supplies or funds.
We are always looking for volunteers!
Do you have a few hours or time weekly to gave?
Monetary funds are always appreciated and help with my different aspects of the centre
Food donations are a great way to help our centre. We have provided a list demand food items
We are very fortunate. Not only do we have a nice home but we also have a cabin. It is just west of Calgary and provides a wonderful break, both physically and mentally, from all the activities of the city. My daughter had a bedroom in the cabin. We called it the “Princess Room”. It was decorated accordingly! The pillows were pink, as were the sheets. There were a lot of frills. When entering the room there was no question that a princess slept there! Well time has moved on and our daughter is now a grade 6 teacher in Northern BC. The need for the “Princess Room'' has gone away. So, just last weekend we bundled up all the princess bedding and gave it to a friend. She runs a home that takes care of those that don’t have quite enough. The bedding was given to a single mother who had a 4 year old daughter. They are a proud family and even though they lack material things they volunteer and contribute at this home. I received a picture of this precocious little girl sound asleep on the Princess Bed. Her mother said that she has never been more thrilled. For that little girl and her mother, at that moment, they had enough.
Hope your day is going well. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you wholeheartedly for your wonderful contribution in At the other end of the spectrum there is a story about two very famous authors who were having a discussion. Kurt Vonnegat and Joseph Heller were invited to a party put on by a ridiculously wealthy hedge fund manager. The reason they were there was basically to show off that the rich guy had intellectual friends. Those at the party would say, “Guess who I met at so-and-so's party?” The rich guy would look good and so would they. During the evening Kurt Vonnegat informs his pal, Joseph Heller, that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his wildly popular novel (and movie) “Catch 22” over its whole history! Heller looked around the room at the beautiful people, the artwork, the fabulous food and thought for a moment. He then responded , “Yes… but I have something he will never have… enough”
The word “enough” has a simple eloquence to it. The little girl with her princess bedding is in my opinion the enviable person. I feel sorry for the rich guy, for his journey to enough will never succeed.
